Setting Up Police & EMS Jobs the Right Way in FiveM

Police and EMS jobs are the backbone of almost every serious roleplay server โ€” they're what make a living, reactive world possible. Setting them up well takes more than just adding a job. Here's how to do it right.

Why police and EMS are special

Unlike a mechanic or shop job, police and EMS are service jobs that interact with every other player: arresting criminals, responding to emergencies, reviving downed players. This means they need more infrastructure โ€” duty systems, equipment, dispatch, and proper permissions โ€” and they're more sensitive to exploits, since a fake cop is a serious problem.

The core pieces

A proper police/EMS setup involves:

  1. The job definitions (police, ambulance/EMS) with ranked grades
  2. A duty system so officers are clearly on/off duty
  3. Job-specific scripts โ€” the police and ambulance job resources providing arrests, evidence, revives, etc.
  4. Equipment and vehicles appropriate to each grade
  5. Stations โ€” where they go on duty, get equipment, and access job functions
  6. Dispatch/MDT (optional but common) for calls and records

Step 1: Define the jobs with grades

Set up police and EMS as jobs with sensible grade ladders (e.g. Cadet โ†’ Officer โ†’ Sergeant โ†’ Chief for police). Mark leadership grades as boss for management. Grades gate access to equipment and vehicles.

Step 2: Set up a proper duty system

Duty is critical for service jobs โ€” players should be clearly on or off duty, ideally tied to a station duty point so officers go on duty at the station, not anywhere. This keeps roleplay grounded and prevents random players flashing a badge in the street. A good multijob system with station-locked duty handles this well.

Step 3: Install the job resources

Add the police and ambulance job scripts compatible with your framework. These provide the actual functionality โ€” cuffing, searching, jailing, reviving, treating injuries. Configure them for your server's rules.

Step 4: Set up stations and equipment

Configure station locations where officers/medics:

  • Go on and off duty
  • Get their equipment and uniforms
  • Access vehicles appropriate to their grade
  • Use job functions

Grab coordinates for these points.

Step 5: Lock down permissions

This is where service jobs demand extra care. Ensure:

  • Only on-duty, properly-employed officers can use police powers
  • Actions are validated server-side so players can't exploit their way into police abilities
  • Grade restrictions actually hold

A fake or exploited cop ruins roleplay, so security here matters more than for most jobs.

Step 6: Test thoroughly

Test the full loop: going on duty at the station, getting equipment, performing job actions, and critically, confirming off-duty or non-police players *can't* use police functions.

Balance matters too

Police and EMS need to be balanced against the rest of your server's economy and crime systems โ€” pay, numbers, and powers all affect the roleplay balance. Our guide on balancing your job economy covers this.

Reliable jobs, clean duty

The duty and multijob layer underneath your service jobs matters enormously for keeping them grounded and secure. At Viper Development, our FiveM multijob script includes station-locked duty and server-side validation โ€” exactly what police and EMS setups need.
