Networkcrash

Server connection timed out / failed to connect after 3 attempts

Also seen as: connection timed out FiveM failed to connect to server server not responding FiveM couldn't connect handshake

What causes it

The client couldn't complete the connection handshake with the server. Causes range from the server being down or full, wrong port forwarding, a firewall blocking the port, or the server hanging on a resource during player load.

How to fix it

Confirm the server is up and reachable, ports are open, and no resource is hanging player joins.

  1. Confirm the server is actually running and not full.
  2. Server owners: ensure TCP and UDP port 30120 (or your custom port) are forwarded and open in the firewall.
  3. Watch the server console as a client connects — if it hangs on a resource, that resource is the problem.
  4. Client: delete the server cache (FiveM.app/data/cache/) and retry.
  5. Confirm the connect address/port the client uses is correct.
